Water Absorbent Socks
Water absorbent socks are long, narrow tubes filled with absorbent material that takes up water. Lay one around a leak, a door threshold or a machine so the water stays in one place. They are for water-based liquids only. If oil, coolant or solvent may be in the liquid, use universal absorbent socks. For oil on land or water, use oil absorbent socks.

How to Place Water Absorbent Socks
- Confirm the liquid is water before you open the box.
- Lay the sock on the floor around the leak, not on top of the pipe.
- Keep the line continuous. Ends should touch so water cannot pass between them.
- Add a second line if water is still moving past the first.
- Lift the sock out once it is full and dispose of it under your site waste rule.
Water Sorbent Socks FAQ
What is the difference between water sorbent socks and universal absorbent socks?
Water socks are for water only. Universal socks also take oil, coolant and solvent, so they are the sock to stock where those liquids share a floor. If you are not sure what is leaking, use universal socks.
Can water absorbent socks be used on oil or chemical spills?
No. Oil and fuel need oil-only socks. Acids, caustics and unknown chemicals need chemical socks. A water sock left on those liquids does not finish the job.
